Lake Erie Management Commission to Host Lake Erie Rally

DUNKIRK, N.Y.:-- The Lake Erie Management Commission will be hosting a Lake Erie Rally on May 13, 2017 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club, 1 Mullet Dr. in Dunkirk.

Residents are encouraged to attend and learn about all of the positive initiatives currently underway to improve and enhance our waterfronts and harbors. It will feature exhibits and presentations from environmental and economic development organizations as they discuss their initiatives and answer questions.

Chautauqua County Executive Vince Horrigan will open the rally along with remarks from state and local government officials. There will be informative presentations on the Northern Chautauqua Local Waterfront Redevelopment Program and the City of Dunkirk’s efforts to improve Dunkirk harbor.  There will also be a presentation on the Lake Erie Watershed Protection Alliance (LEWPA) and an update on the Chautauqua County Soil and Water Conservation District’s efforts to improve water quality in Lake Erie tributaries.

“The Lake Erie Rally event is a natural extension of the County’s efforts to bring people together and talk openly about all of the good things that are happening here on Lake Erie,” said Horrigan.   “There is so much activity on so many fronts. The ice was off the Lake early this year and we are gearing up for a great summer season on Lake Erie.”

Lake Erie Management Commission Chairman and Chautauqua County Legislator George Borrello said, “There are a lot of people working together to make Chautauqua County’s harbors and waterfronts premier destinations for boaters, sportsman and tourists.  This part of New York State has been a well-kept secret, which is something we hope to change by having events like this.”

“There are a lot of good things happening in the City of Dunkirk and in the North County Communities,” said Mayor Willie Rosas.  “Dunkirk’s waterfront has always been a place for people to come together and enjoy the best of what Northern Chautauqua County has to offer.”

The rally is a free, public event and refreshments will be provided. The event is co-sponsored by the Chautauqua County Department of Planning and Economic Development, Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau, City of Dunkirk Department of Planning and Development, and The Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club.
