Chairman David Himelein (R-District 18) is a lifelong resident of Chautauqua County.
As Legislator of District 18 since 2010, Chairman Himelein represents the people of the Towns of Mina and Sherman, a large part of the Town of Chautauqua, and the Villages of Sherman and Mayville. He has served on several Legislature Committees including Public Safety, Audit & Control, Public Facilities and Administrative Services. Chairman Himelein served as the Legislature’s Majority Leader from 2014-2016. In addition, he is currently a member of the Chautauqua County Airport Commission and the North Chautauqua Lake Sewer District Board.
Chairman Himelein has been a member of his local fire service since 1969 and his past service includes President and Chief of the Findley Lake Volunteer Fire Department, President of the Chautauqua County Fire Chiefs Association as well as the Chairman of the County Fire Advisory Board. He served 7 years as a councilman on the Mina Town Board and is presently a member of the Findley Lake-Mina Historical Board of Directors.
After attending Gannon College, Chairman Himelein worked for Welch Foods for 40 years. The last 12 years of his career with the company were spent at the North East plant as Production Supervisor responsible for all the grape juice as well as several other juices and concentrates.
A Findley Lake native, Chairman Himelein and his wife Joan raised three daughters – Cindy, Tracey and Wendy and is a proud grandfather and great-grandfather.
